How Knowmanity Started on a Balcony

Companies lose critical knowledge every day because it lives in people's heads. Max and Marcus decided to do something about it.

Max and Marcus, founders of Knowmanity

Important know-how is lost quietly all the time: when people change jobs, retire, or hand over responsibilities under pressure. Not because nobody cares, but because it was never written down. With demographic change, this is becoming a serious business risk.

Max and Marcus met through their girlfriends, who meet every Wednesday. When Marcus moved next door, they started hanging out over barbecues and beer. Both were deep in digital transformation at work: Max at Ingram Micro on Project Xvantage, Marcus at BMW working on digitalization and data strategy. They kept running into the same problem: how do you preserve knowledge before it walks out the door?

The first Knowmanity sketch on a balcony
The beginning - a balcony, a beer and a whiteboard.

Between full-time jobs and a startup: this is what our weekly reality looks like.

At one point Max said, Hold on, let me grab a pen. Late that night, they mapped the first version of the idea on a balcony whiteboard. After that, they refined it with AI tools. Their goodbye deal was simple: if we still like this tomorrow, we keep going. In a slightly tipsy moment, Max had already bought two domains.

The next morning they texted each other and got started. Neither of them could code back then, so they learned everything from scratch: building software and building a company. Milestones followed: 2025-08-05 incorporation of Knowmanity UG, 2025-12-23 patent filing at the DPMA. And one ritual never changed: Wednesday night coding sessions, often until very late.

Since that evening, one thing has been clear:

Knowledge should not leave the company when people do.

From Sketch to a Market-Ready SaaS Product in Under a Year!

What started as a balcony sketch became a complete SaaS product in less than a year. Knowmanity is ready for the market, and we now want to work with companies that treat knowledge loss as a real strategic challenge, not a side topic.

How We Do It

Three core principles that drive everything

Structure Knowledge

We help transform scattered knowledge into clear, traceable structures—so it becomes discoverable and actionable.

Create Clarity

Structured knowledge reveals reality: processes, dependencies, best practices. This clarity is the foundation for better decisions.

Enable Responsible AI

AI is only as reliable as the data and processes it's built on. We create that solid foundation for trustworthy AI deployment.

Why It Matters

  • When experienced people leave, years of practical know-how often leave with them.
  • Companies need that knowledge in daily operations, not only during crises.
  • That is exactly why Knowmanity builds a structure that keeps knowledge usable.
